Poor Britney. As a fan of Britney's since she came onto the scene, my heart aches for her. I root for her in every so-called "comeback," hoping that this time it will stick. Somehow, and maybe this is just the optimist in me, I think this time it is.
Watching the documentary about her on MTV, Britney Spears: For the Record, Britney has never been so honest. Compared to past recent "honest" interviews, Britney shows a new articulation in speaking, using a better vocabulary, showing more composure while interviewed, garnering our respect for her, not as an artist but as a person.
This whole documentary seemed like a call for a normal life. The saddest part, in fact the only time she teared up, was when she talked about how it feels like no one talks to her and wants to listen to what she has to say. People usually have other motives when they talk to her or just listen to what she says because she is famous. This makes her feel lonely, like she can't trust 99% of the people in the world. She wishes to go to the grocery store with her babies, take a walk with a friend, or go to get ice cream at a special place. She can't do any of those things. Britney's life is unlike anyone else's. She even likened it to jail - she said that even when you're in jail, you know when you will be out. How devastating.
I hope nothing terrible happens to Britney. There has been so much tragedy already in her young life, and in a way, she lives with tragedy every day in that she has no freedom to live a normal life.
I hope someday Britney gets what she wants and is happy.

I am thankful for...
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I'd like to list all of the people I am thankful for every day (in no particular order):
My family: all of them, my mom, dad, brother; my grandparents; my aunts and uncles and cousins across the country; my extended family who I don't see as often. They all have given me pieces of themselves to teach me lessons and make me who I am.
Look how short I am in this picture from my graduation dinner (May 07). Jack is about 2 inches taller now, btw.

My friends:

My boyfriend: I won't go into details, but needless to say... I'm thankful for him.
Purple party to celebrate my favorite color and my 24th birthday, September 2008

My Angie: The cutest pup ever.

I am thankful for you! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

My friends:
- New friends - friends from Curtis work, who I have bonded with over the past year and love so dearly! Memories from Chicago, cracky faculty workshop days and conferences, and happy hours will stand the test of time!

- Summer family - My Tocalomans... my heart :) family in all senses of the word (except we are not related :). Each one of you gives something unique to the group, which makes for one special group indeed! My summers, and my life, would not be remotely the same without any one of you!
- My high school aka "old" friends - Our cool weekends falling asleep in front of the TV on Friday nights or giggling at humphs... My best, no wait, THE best girlfriends!

- My PHIS! - A A Alpha phi! 3 years of my favorite and most memorable times, including silly songs, long islands, a million costumes, and sisterhood. There is no one else I would have been able to live with in such close quarters during college, and I am thankful for all of the memories - and gigs of photos - that I will always have and cherish! Oh my love is alpha phi :)

Twi-hard
A cultural phenomenon. A world-wide bestseller. An obsession of teen girls and their moms. Have I mentioned I am obsessed with Twilight? It all began last October. A friend who I love anyway but love a hundred times more for telling me to run to the bookstore and buy this book, gave me the best book recommendation of a lifetime. The guy I bought it from at Barnes and Noble - I will never forget this - emphatically told me it's his favorite book and he can't wait until he has another day off so he can read it again. Man, I thought, this book has to be something special.
It is. I read Twilight. Then New Moon. Then Eclipse. Fell in love with Edward as we all do, wishing desperately for him to be real. I made connections between the story and my real life. The biggest one being that I had found new love recently, and sometimes pictured my BF in Edward's role (shh I never told him that part). I fell in love with reading in a way I had forgotten about, that I hadn't experienced since I was in elementary school. I always felt that my high school experience, as valuable as it was, turned me off from reading, since I avoided the hundreds of boring pages we had for homework every night. If Edward Cullen had been infused in my AP Art History reading, you bet I would have read every night.
I love everything about the books. The fast read; the characters; the relatability of the heroine; the villains; the duplicity of the two alpha males and the devotion they show for Bella; the connections to great literature (Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights); the way Stephenie gives you perfect visuals with simple, non-flowery or pretentious language; the way it makes us feel nostalgia for our first love... oh my gosh I could go on and on.
And the movie. Oh the movie. As much as the movie isn't perfect, I overall was pleased with the depiction. In re-reading the book, I know there are parts that were inexplicably changed or ommitted. Of course, they can't include everything. But after my third time seeing it (I know...) I love it more and more each time. I think the reason is the movie gives perfect visuals of almost exactly what I had in my head. And seeing my beloved characters onscreen makes them feel real. The more I watch the more I believe in the character portrayals. I love that the movie starts and ends, and starts right back up again when you go the next time. After finishing Breaking Dawn, it felt so devastatingly sad to be done with the story, it's nice to be able to relive the first chapter again and again.
So there is my babble about Twilight for today. I have so much more to say about it, but no one would ever want to read it all in one sitting. So therefore I will space it out.
And now back to my book...

Case of the Mondays

Mondays.... they are inevitable, but they seem to always be never-ending. Especially when you have 3-hour class in the evening! I don't know about you, but I can never get my mind straight. It takes me like 3 times as long to process things, and I never seem to get my work done fast enough.
Now to move on from the complaining... :) The weekend had some great highlights, including USC Homecoming, staying in on Halloween with my guy, and having a great brunch with him and taking a walk on Sunday.
I think going out on Halloween is fantastic if that's what you'd like to do, but for me this year, it was just not in the cards because I was so tired, so staying in and watching Bravo's top 100 scary movie moments totally fit the bill. I know I'm young and am supposed to be going out at every opportunity according to some, but I just couldn't this time, so next time it is!
What made me sad though, is that I couldn't open the door for trick-or-treaters. I can't wait to live in a neighborhood where there are lots of cuties in costumes trick-or-treating!
Here is a picture of my costume. I was mustard! It is not easy to find a non-slutty, school-appropriate costume!

Jury duty = the pits
After 3 days of jury selection... I have been selected to be on a jury! Well, not even truly on a jury. I'm an alternate. I guess there are good and bad aspects to this:
Pro: I don't start til 11 every day, giving me good homework/TV time in the morning.
Con: Missing work, and probably exceeding the 5 paid jury duty days I get from my job.
Pro: BF meeting me for lunch to brighten the experience.
Con: I can't talk about it so I can't blog about it yet!
Pro: It is actually pretty interesting...
Con: Not knowing exactly when I'll be set free!
I guess it's part of our civic duty. But I just don't like being out of my routine, and feeling like my time is not my own.
Oh well, gotta go to jury duty now. More about this later...

Question of the day
Name 3 people who have made you smile today.
Brian, Laura, and JD.
And Angie. And Jason Segel.
What about you?

great expectations
This weekend was one for the books - highs and lows like anything else you are looking forward to for months, but it got me thinking about expectations. Things don't always turn out the way you expect them to. This isn't to say the weekend was good or bad, it was actually pretty fabulous, but it just wasn't quite what I expected.
First, on our way down to San Diego, BF and I drove over a cone on the freeway. Not just a cone. A humungous cone. The biggest kind they make. Flew out from under the car in front of us, and under my pretty, white, year-old car. It cracked the bumber and scratched it up real nice. Boo. :(
Next, we headed to a dear friend's wedding, which was beautiful and perfect. There's nothing that makes me happier than seeing a friend light up the room with happiness (super cheesy, sorry, you should have seen her though.) I had been looking forward to the wedding for months, and whoops, a bottle of wine later, I woke up in one of the bedrooms, having pretty much missed it all. I got up and joined the remaining fun, and annoyed the crap out of my friends by apologizing and talking about how this has never happened to me before.
The rest of the weekend was lovely, aside from not feeling super hot. Staying the night at BFF's new apartment, eating delish pizza, and a smidge of shopping on our way home.
This weekend's events just got me thinking about how, when we anticipate something for such a long time, things usually don't end up the way we expect. And, again, not to say it's worse or better, we just don't have any idea what life has in store for us. That's what makes it such a fun ride....
And on another note, seeing my summer family this weekend at the wedding made me miss them more than ever. Summer never comes fast enough.
